Liturgy of the Hours

Psalm 92

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to make music to your name, O Most High,
to proclaim your love in the morning
and your truth in the watches of the night,
on the ten-stringed lyre and the lute,
with the murmuring sound of the harp.

Your deeds, O Lord, have made me glad;
for the work of your hands I shout with joy.
O Lord, how great are your works!
How deep are your designs!
The foolish man cannot know this
and the fool cannot understand.

Though the wicked spring up like grass
and all who do evil thrive:
they are doomed to be eternally destroyed.
But you, Lord, are eternally on high.
Se how your enemies perish;
all doers of evil are scattered.

To me you give the wild-ox's strength;
you anoint me with the purest oil.
My eyes looked in triumph on my foes;
my ears heard gladly of their fall.
The just will flourish like the palm-tree
and grow like a Lebanon cedar.

Planted in the house of the Lord
they will flourish in the courts of our God,
still bearing fruit when they are old,
still full of sap, still green,
to proclaim that the Lord is just;
in him, my rock, there is no wrong.

What a beautiful Psalm to begin the day.

Hi! It's been a long time, I know...I've stopped occasionally and wanted to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful new year.

I'd never prayed the Liturgy of the Hours before, except for an occasional fortuitous "being in the right place at the right time" in church. I've been praying lauds and/or vespers and compline over the past two months on a regular basis and I find myself saying, every time, "what a beautiful way to start (or end) the day". It really helps keep me keep me focused and feel like my heart is in the right place. I've found online audio versions both in English and Italian. It may seem strange that I'm only making this discovery now, at 50 years of age...better late than never!

Hi Pia,

Happy and Blessed New Year to you as well. It sure has been a long time since we've connected with each other. Glad to know everything is going will with you. It's never too late at any age to start building faith on a deeper level. I'm so happy that it makes you heart feel good. That's important. I hope all is well at home in Italy and also here in the USA for your family. I've kept you in my prayers and will continue for the rest of my life. God bless you Pia and your family.
